Website Strategy
Website Redesign Checklist for Service Businesses
What to review before redesigning an outdated business website, from messaging and content to redirects and conversion tracking.
01
Identify what is not working
A redesign should begin with the business problem. Common issues include unclear services, weak mobile usability, outdated branding, slow pages, poor search structure, and forms that do not reliably deliver inquiries.
02
Protect useful content and URLs
Before replacing the old site, inventory the current pages, search traffic, backlinks, forms, analytics, and indexed URLs. Valuable pages should be improved rather than deleted without a plan.
When URLs change, create redirects so visitors and search engines reach the correct replacement page.
03
Define the new conversion journey
Decide what each major visitor should do next. A contractor may prioritize estimate requests, while a consultant may prioritize booked calls. Page structure and calls to action should support that decision.
04
Test before changing the domain
Review forms, mobile layout, metadata, links, analytics, accessibility, and performance in a staging or local environment before the redesigned site replaces the live version.
